Legend Of Zelda Link's Curse 2
chapter 2
After taking care of Link for the next couple of days, Rob helped the boy elf out of bed. "Who was that man?" asked link, taking a bowl of soup that Rob was
handing him. It was hot. Link set it down at the table near his bed and sat down to eat. "It was a friend," said Rob, "Now eat up." Link slowly sipped at the
soup with a small wooden spoon. It was pumpkin spice, his favorite. "I'm so glad you're feeling better, Link," said Rob, smiling. "And that reminds me. I have
something for you. It's a gift." Rob walked over to the table near the enterence door and picked up the unlit lamp and took it over to show Link. "This is for
you, my boy," said Rob, proudly. Link studied the old lamp, then said, "What's it for. Am I going somewhere? Where did you get it?" Rob said nothing. He knew he
had to tell Link the truth. He had to tell Link what the healer had told him, that Link was to save the land and all it's people that dwelt within it. Rob
swallowed nervously. "yes," Rob finally said, "You are going somewhere."
Link looked confused. "You want me to deliver another sack of carrots to farmer Fred, is that it? Why would I need a lantern for that? Farmer Fred lives half
a days journey from here." Rob shook his head. "That's not it," he said regretfully. "You see, Link. The healer, the one who nursed you back to health gave me the
lantern to give to you. It belongs to you now. You are to go one a great journey. It has been prophecied by the sages of old. I know it's alot to accept for such
a young lad as yourself, but I know that what the healer said is true. You are the one who must save the land from the approaching evil. You must save the people
as well. If you do not, life as we know it will cease to exist. Please understand me, Link."
Young Link sighed and swallowed another spoonful of soup. It didn't go down easily, as now he had a knot in his stomache. "I...I'm not hungry any more," said
Link, sounding annoyed. He set down his spoon and stared at the wall. "You need be off now," said Rob, patting Link's blonde hair. "Take the lantern. I'll light
it for you." Rob handed Link the old lantern. It seemed very heavy in the small elves hand. He grasped it with both hands. Rob opened the front of the lantern and
taking an ember from the fireplace with steel tongs, places it into the lantern. Moments later, the lantern was burning bright red. "Now yer ready, Link," said Rob,
pushing the young elf towards the front door. "But...but..." protested Link. "Can't you find someone else. Someone more qualified?" Rob shook his head again.
"Sorry, lad. There is no one else." Link's face dropped. When he lifted it a moment later, he asked, in a quieter voice, "Can't we go together? We're a team,
remember?" Rob nudged Link closer to the door. "I can't get involved, Link," said Rob. "You must do this alone. Plus, adventure is waiting. If you succeed, you'll
be the greatest hero the land has ever known. Great risk equals great reward! Never forget that Link. There is also the sword of prophecy." When Link heard this,
his eyes lit up. He had heard of the sword of prophecy before. Many times. As a young child, his caretakers used to tell tales of the sword of prophecy and it's
great powers. "You know of the sword of prophecy, Link?" asked Rob, surprised. "Of course I do," said Link. "Everyone knows about it. Who ever finds it getss the
privilidge to bare the mark of the tri-force on the back of their hand. And anyone with that mark is the true hero."
Rob was amazed. "I think I've finally convinced him to go on the journey," he thought to himself. "Okay," Link said finally, "I'll do it. But on one condition."
Rob nodded. "Name it," he said. "My condition is this," said Link. "Anytime I'm weary, please welcome me back here for rest and more pumpkin soup. Do we have a
deal?"
"Yes!" said Rob greatfully, "And I'll shake on that!" Link set the lantern down a second to secure the deal with a hearty hand shake, then scouped up the lantern
once again and headed for the exit. "Just one more thing," added Rob, reaching for the leather pouch at his belt. He unhooked it and tucked it into Link's backpack.
"What are you giving me now?" asked the young elf. "My life savings in rupies," said rob with a wink. "And a little advice as well. Head south in the village to the
big shop. You may find some useful items there for yer journey. "Thank you for everything, Rob," said Link, smiling. "Well, I guess I'd best be on my way." So Link
began his adventure to save the land and it's people from the dark force invading from the north. As the young elf exited, Rob whispered a silent prayer to the
creators for protection.
