Link's Curse 7
chapter 7
Link's heart sank. Was this the creature he was supposed to defeat in order to find the key to the chest waiting outside? How would he ever defeat such a monster?
He froze. To his surprise, the spider monster stood still, staring straight ahead, breathing heavily. Link's heart was beating wildly. Without thinking, he
took a step backwards. It was a mistake. As soon as he had moved, the giant spider monster charged forward at him. Link had no time to react. His body took a hard
blow and he flew backwards several feet. He landed hard, dropping his sword and shield. Scrambling to his feet, Link reached for his sword. He managed to grab it,
but couldn't get to his shield before the spider monster began to charge again. Link ran as fast as he could, around in circles. He ran around the spider monster
until ut became dizzy and stopped in it's tracks. Just then, Link noticed the little green monster that he had seen earlier, the one who had been with the cloaked
and hooded figure, emerge from one of the dark passages ways. The green monster ran over and snatched Link's shield, then turned and ran back into another cavern
and out of sight.
"Darn!" Link cursed. "Another lost weapon." Then Link remembered the spider monster, who still sat dazed. He wouldn't be dazed for long, most likely. Already,
it was starting to move again, getting ready for a third charge. Link began to run in circles again, round and round the giant monster. It roared angrily. But it
starting to slow down. "Perhaps it's tiring," thought Link. He hoped it were true. The creature tried to swing one of it's human arms towards Link, but missed,
just barely. Link kept running, though he was now starting to feel tired himself. Once again, the spider monster stopped from exhaustion and sat motionless. It's
two human arms hung at it's sides. It was then that Link noticed a red circle on one of the palms of the monsters hands. He ran up to it to take a closer look. It
almost looked like a target. So Link thrust his sword forward and slashed the front of the hand. Once. Twice. Three times. The monster roared in pain. The monster
began to move again, slowly. Link was now quicker than it. It swiped at him with it's other hand, knocking him to the floor. But Link was up again in seconds with
sword in firmly hand.
Link noticed that the hand that he had injured hung uselessly at the monsters side. Maybe he had to do the same thing to the other hand of the spider monster.
Again, Link ran in circles around the monster, until it sat still, looking more dizzy than ever. Link ran to the monsters other arm and began slashing at the palm.
It also had a red circle on it. He hit the hand three times, causing the second arm to hang limp at it's side. Both arms were useless now! Link no longer had to
worry about getting knocked over by the large hands. He wondered just how much more he had to do in order to defeat the monster. It roared again, stamping it's
spider legs. "Perhaps the legs," he thought. Link ran behind it, and slashed at one of the long, black legs. He cut into it, and it easily came off. He ran around
the monster, swinging his sword wildly. In the process, he cut three more legs off. At this point, the spider monster was pretty much defenseless. It roared again,
and one of it's heads hung limp as if it were dead or dying. It tried to move, but barely could. Link finished the monster off in mere seconds, cutting it's last
four legs off easily. As soon as he did this, the remaining body of the monster began to dissolve. It disappeared into a dark mist.
"WHAAAT!!!???" shouted an angry voice from behind Link. The young elf turned, feeling quite exhausted, to see who had suddenly shouted. The tall, hooded figure
appeared from the shadows. The small green monster carrying Link's shield followed. Link was still. The hooded figure walked over to Link and stared down at him.
Link still could not see the person's face. "Who...who are you, sir?" ask Link, nervously. "Don't you know?" said a familiar voice. Link's heart sank. He did indeed
recognize that voice. It belonged to the mysterious stranger he had encountered in the tavern back in Kakariko village. The one who had told him he was in danger.
The one who had told him that he had been watching Link for some time. The tall figure pulled back his hood, revealing the face of an aged man with shaggy gray
hair and a messy, gray black beard. "You!" shouted Link, fear and a bit of anger sounding in his voice, "Why are you here?"
The bearded man scowled down at the young elf. "I could ask you the same thing, boy!" he snapped. "You could be in a lot of trouble, you know. Those were my pets
you killed. My wonderful Leila and Violet. I could report you to the king, boy! I really should! But I won't" The bearded man shook his head and sighed. "I have
many other pets," he said, but Leila and Violet were my favorites. How I will miss them. It's funny, running into you again, boy. Somehow I just knew we'd run
into one another again."
